Scientific Species - (Nyssaceae)
Tupelo has an interlocking grain and the growth rings are inconspicuous to the naked eye. The lumber is a very fine-textured wood and is very desirable for wood carvers, interior millwork, interior parts of furniture and industrial uses. Tupelo's sapwood is white to grayish white with a somewhat brownish gray heartwood.
Tupelo is made up of Black Tupelo (Nyssa sylvatica), Water Tupelo (Nyssa aquatica) and Ogeechee Tupelo (Nyssa ogeche) all of which are found in bottomland sites throughout the southeastern United States.
We offer Kiln Dried Tupelo in 4/4 and 5/4 thicknesses in sorted and random widths in 6’ up to 16’ lengths.
